Bringing Some Underrated Beauty Products To Your Attention…
Now more than ever that churn of new releases, different variations of the same product and dupes, all of which are grabbing our attention via the beast that is social media, means that even with the best of intentions there’s an “out with the old and in with new” approach. As a blogger and all-round beauty enthusiast, I’m the first to admit that I often fall for what’s shiny and new. There’s no doubt that it’s exciting as well as to some extent an expectation talk about what’s trending in the industry.
Likewise, there’s a sense of pride about having those cult status products sitting pretty on my vanity. That’s not to say it’s all just hype. Many of these products and new releases I swear by but I’m sure we can all think of some
[/ads_col][ads_col col=”cell”]underrated beauty products in our collection. I’ve definitely got a fair few to share with you. I like to think of them as the unsung heroes. Or at least you just don’t hear so much about them anymore. Although they may not be at the forefront of the media’s attention, they are products I still keep within easy reach. From tried and trusted lip products and a favourite concealer, to pretty much the only eyeliner I wear on a daily basis, read on to find out about my much-loved, but somewhat underrated beauty products.
Revlon Colourstay Crème Eyeshadow
I’ve literally been turning to these very unassuming but gorgeous cream eyeshadows on a daily basis. Whilst I haven’t tested the 24 hour claim, they are extremely long-lasting and that’s without using an eyeshadow primer. They make for a great day option, as a base under eyeshadow, or on their own. I always get compliments when I wear these eyeshadows and whilst I don’t care too much for the chunky and ugly looking lids, the price and finish more than compensates for this. See below for my favourite colours.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer
After trying a fair few under-eye concealers over the years, this is my tried and trusted and also featured in my post on Base Staples. The formula has since been revamped and luckily works just as well. Now waterproof and easier to blend, I’m surprised this little wonder doesn’t get enough credit.
I have the colours 710 Caramel (left) and 705 Creme Brûlée (right) in the Revlon ColourStay Crème Eyeshadows.
They have a slightly frosted sheen that really brighten the eyes and they compliment all skin tones.
M&S Formula Restore Night Cream*
I honestly can’t rave about this night cream enough. I’ve spoken about this very luxurious yet affordable night cream from the M&S Beauty range in a recent Skincare post and I will definitely be repurchasing. M&S Beauty is still quite underrated but they have some amazing products that really do deserve a bit more attention. I love this night cream for its nourishing properties. It makes my skin feel so supple the following morning and in my opinion rivals some high-end brands.
Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine
If you read my post on Favourites for Undone Hair, then this really is a star product. Right down to the smell and that relaxed yet polished finish it gives to the hair, I can’t get enough. I wish it come in a bigger size because I go through tubes of the stuff and it’s one of those products I always keep in my stash no matter what new and exciting product may be on my radar.
Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder
Chanel may not be an underrated brand but I’m always surprised at how little this translucent powder is mentioned; even when you go to the Chanel counters they dig it out from the back! Apparently Kim Kardashian chose this for her wedding day. I can see why since it’s feather light and leaves an airbrushed finish without that cakey feel and all whilst keeping my makeup in tact. It is expensive but it lasts me well over two years.
Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder in Candlelight
When this was first released, what feels like many years ago, there was a lot of chatter about this gorgeous highlighter. Whilst inevitably many highlighters have since stolen our hearts, I’m still in awe of this ethereal glow giver. It may look quite boring in the pan, but don’t be fooled as it’s a stunner.
Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow in Desire
I think Lipstick Queen is seriously underrated. They have some amazing colours in their range but just don’t seem to get enough press. This classic brick-red and cherry-toned combo is utterly gorgeous and I’ve been doting over this for over two years. In fact, you can even see it mentioned in my Red Lip Crayon Edit where I’m sharing a few other favourites too.
Lipstick Queen Invisible Lip Liner
This is another Lipstick Queen favourite which appears to have slipped under the radar. If you’ve read my Beauty Essentials post you’ll know I always turn to this clever little invention. Great for clearing up any lipstick mess and ensuring you don’t get that annoying feathering around the lips, this is a must-have for me, particularly when I’m wearing a bold lip.
Nars Velvet Lip Liner in Waimea
Everyone including me loves the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Crayons but no one talks about the Velvet Lip Liners all that much. The formula is by far my favourite – a slightly creamy matte that’s incredibly long-lasting. Also the colour Waimea is that perfect peachy nude and looks gorgeous all over the lips too. It reminds me of MAC’s Spice but personally I prefer this because it’s brighter.
MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
Granted I’m pretty unadventurous when it comes to eyeliner but I still maintain that this is hands down the best brown eyeliner out there. If like me you find black too hash then you need to get your hands on this. This eyeliner featured in my Unsung Heroes post almost three years ago – testament to the fact that I still use it to this day!
BareMinerals Prime Time Original Foundation Primer
Lastly, I feel like I’ve stumbled across a gem having discovered this primer by BareMinerals. Perhaps some may know of it already but for me at least it had never been on my radar until I started using it. It does contain silicone, which for me isn’t a problem and I love how it instantly glides over the skin, blurring pores at the same time as well as improving the longevity of my foundation.
So that’s it for now….. The excitement of what’s new will always be tempting but I’m not afraid to keep those products of yesteryear alive. They may be underrated but they are by no means inadequate. In fact, it’s often the underrated in beauty that stand the test of time. Equally, hype or no hype, to share new beauty finds is always exciting – it keeps everything interesting.
So what have you got in your beauty collection that you think deserves a bit more attention? x
