For some reason MAC is one of those brands that I tend to buy when I am on holiday. I know you should be relaxing but a sneaky purchase in duty-free or gravitating towards the makeup counters (or should I say seeking them), never did anyone any harm. I also find the MAC counters in the UK are always rammed and although I have a list of all the things I want to buy, I get a complete mind blank and come back with nothing, or what I want is out of stock.
When you go abroad though it seems so much quieter and I can be all casual about it. It’s often when I get the items I’ve meant to for ages or come across some things I’ve never noticed before and on a recent trip to Budapest, I had a very mini MAC spree (well mini for me at least)!
First up is MAC Powder Blush in Harmony. I’ve been on the hunt for a barely-there blusher which isn’t too pink-toned and can be used as a contour. Whilst I love my Nars Laguna, it’s a lot darker and what I reserve for special occasions, whereas MAC Harmony is nude-beige in colour and imparts a subtle effect on my medium-toned skin. Multi-purpose, this can also be used as a blusher and bronzer, the latter, I can imagine, being particularly good if you have a fairer skin-tone.
It’s always difficult to go to a MAC counter and not start swatching their lipsticks (even for the ones you already own)! The MAC Liptensity Lipstick in Smoked Almond is probably not a normal colour I would go for. I’d describe it as a caramel nude brown with a pinkish undertone and it is very opaque with a creamy matte finish.
Lastly is perfume, which admittedly I didn’t even know that MAC did perfumes. The MAC Shadescents Collection is a pretty unique concept whereby six of MAC’s iconic shades from nudes, pinks, reds and purple are matched to a corresponding scent. I’m not really that interested in having a perfume that matches my lipstick but do think this is a clever idea and the kid in me felt like I needed this.
I decided to go for MAC Shadescents in Crème D’ Nude. To me this translates as a mix of coffee, vanilla, musk and caramel, the latter three in particular being the main ingredients for this sweet smelling perfume. As you know with me, I’m a sucker for packaging and this does not disappoint. The only drawback with this is that I stop smelling it on me after a while but that said if I was to spray this on myself in the morning, I still smell the perfume in my room at the end of the day!
Without intending to, I have a peachy caramel theme going on here and overall I am pleased with my purchases. So have you tried any of these before and what recent MAC purchases have you made recently?
