Your Day to Night Beauty Routine Sorted

Who doesn’t love a decent amount of time to get ready for a night out, but most often than not this isn’t possible. Busy schedules, after-work events or just being plain lazy means that for most, a day to night beauty routine is very much rushed.
In these situations, starting from scratch isn’t an option so it’s all about anything that’s dual purpose, easy to pop into your makeup bag and great for a touch-up. And all the better when it looks like you’ve spent ages doing your makeup!
Luckily my day to night beauty routine is very much sorted and here are my top recommendations to get you from desk to glam.
[/ads_color_box]The Base Toppers
Freshening up my base with a dab of concealer as well as a dusting of loose powder is normally my go-to when it comes to day to night beauty. My post on Concealers provides a good round-up of makeup-bag-friendly options that are multi-purpose. However, for an extra pick-me-up under the eyes, my current favourite is the Laura Mercier Secret Concealer. The hydrating formula doesn’t look cakey applied on top of your existing concealer and it provides just the right amount of coverage. What’s more, it’s best applied with the fingers.
And then for those times when concealer just doesn’t cut it but neither is the option to start with your base all over again comes my new favourite – the YSL Touche Éclat All-In-One Glow Foundation. A moisturiser/foundation hybrid, this is easy to blend and the hydrating formula works just as well on top of your existing foundation as it does on its own.
The plastic tube with a pump applicator makes it perfect for your makeup bag and those essential touch-ups. I love how it meshes into the skin, leaving a natural glow that isn’t overly greasy. I’d say the finish is light to medium with about 6-8 hours wear time. Those with overly oily skin may not get on with this but on my normal to dry skin, it works wonders.
There’s also always room for a setting powder in my makeup bag. I’m a Chanel gal when it comes to setting powder and my personal favourite is their loose powder version. However, it’s certainly not practical when you are on the go so their handbag-friendly compact version is a must. Just a quick pat of the Chanel Poudre Universelle Compacte keeps shine at bay and since it’s translucent, it’s virtually undetectable on the skin.
For A Pop of Colour On the Cheeks
Multi-purpose products are key when it comes to your day to night beauty routine. That’s why I love the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick, ideal for giving both your lips and your cheeks a pop of colour.
Moon Beach, as featured here, is a warm, golden peach. The subtle flecks of gold also impart that all-important sun-kissed finish.
Let’s Not Forget About That Glow
You know I can’t skip this step and you don’t have to either with the Rosie for Autograph Starstruck Highlighter in Get the Glow*.
Again, the cream formula makes it super quick to apply with a lovely, luminous finish.
The Lipstick Dilemma
I’m sure I’m not the only one that carries more than one lipstick in my makeup bag. As a serial lipstick mixer I can’t help it. But even I’ve come to realise that less is more when you are in a rush. It’s when those one-swipe lip products come in handy.
My favourites are lip crayons as they give you definition and rich colour in one and of course they don’t take up that much space in your makeup bag. The Chanel Le Rouge Lip Crayon in Rouge Corail is a stunning red but be sure to also check out my Red Lip Crayon Edit for more beautiful recommendations.
I’ve also amassed a mini collection of the Lancôme Matte Shakers. These mini liquid lipsticks dry to a natural matte finish. Don’t be fooled by the application method though, as the colour pay-off is fantastic.
The sponge applicator makes it easy to distribute the right amount of colour across your lips and I prefer a dabbing method to apply it. The great thing is you can layer these to your hearts content without drying out the lips.
But let’s just take a minute to stop and admire the beauty that is the Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick in Gilda. Oh my! The secret mirror that releases automatically when the lipstick is opened is just pure genius. I thought I had it covered when I did my post on Luxe Lipsticks, but this is just something special. Creamy and long-lasting with an intense colour pay-off, Gilda is a lovely warm cherry red and as it’s infused with white golden shimmer, this is pure perfection.
Something for the Eyes
If you are in a rush, your day to night beauty routine needs that no-fuss, super easy to blend approach when it comes to the eyes. That’s where cream eyeshadow sticks come in handy and I’d highly recommend the Rosie for Autograph Cream Eyeshadow Sticks*.
I’m actually turning to these on a daily basis and they are quite literally the most gorgeous cream formula. The colour pay-off is rich and the hints of shimmer make these a great option. See below for my favourite colours.
From left to right:
Almond Eyes – a soft champagne beige. This instantly brightens up the eyes and works as a great inner corner and brow bone highlighter.
Movie Star Crush – a warm, purple-toned brown, great for adding definition.
Sparkle & Magic– a steel grey with a taupe undertone, great for a smokey eye.
Perfume On the Go
Lastly, you can’t really complete a day to night routine without a fragrance touch-up. No doubt, however, carrying your larger perfume bottles isn’t the easiest if you are on the go. That’s why I’ve accumulated many Travalo’s. These perfume atomisers are small and discreet and therefore great for housing my favourite perfumes.
However, a recent fragrance purchase and one I can’t quite get enough of is the Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming Roller-Pearl. Topped with a delicate pearl, this is easy to apply whenever and wherever you want. An elegant and feminine concoction, this fragrance lingers for ages and to say I love it is an understatement.
